The February 2014 update (4.2) will be deployed on the third Thursday, 20th of February. A slight change to our usual Tuesday schedule to allow the inclusion of a few extra improvements...it's only been three weeks since the last round of improvements in 4.1!

Internet Explorer 11 Compatibility - While the issues for IE 11 content editors are quite severe we've been surprised at the low volume of customer feedback. The issue has not yet been addressed by Microsoft for either SharePoint 2010 or 2013. Five months after IE 11's October release there has been no further information on a forthcoming fix. Consequently we have prepared a fix to resolve this issue if it is not addressed in the near future.

Active Directory Performance

4.2 includes significant optimization of Active Directory requests. This change improves the performance of any features which rely on information from Active Directory. We've also been able to significantly reduce the number and frequency of requests made to AD Domain Controllers.

Site & Section Directory

The site directory web part provides an overview of content within a section of your site (it relies on SharePoint's current navigation settings). The web part now includes contextual links (easy buttons) to quickly create a new sub site or manage the links displayed.

My Documents & Designer Workflows Reliability

Improvements to ensure solution updates do not impact feature availability. This addresses an underlying SharePoint issue when making certain changes across a SharePoint server farm. In addition monitoring made available in 4.1 will now identify any related problems.

Website Enhancements (SP 2013)

A new Contact page layout provides a fixed design which displays contact information, a live Bing map and a contact form with a spam-proof ReCaptcha. Also new are school directory and quick search features which provide a fast and easy way to find school websites and access contact information. Available for preview in the SharePoint 2013 website demo coming soon!
